KARACHI, June 20: Jamaat-i-Islami on Thursday expressed its resentment and apprehension over declaration of registration of religious schools mandatory by the government and its intervention in their working.
Reacting to the government’s decisions in this regard, Jamaat-i-Islami Naib Amir Maulana Jan Mohammad Abbasi said measures against the ins-titutions were a source of apprehension for people of the country.
“The role of religious schools, organizations and institutions in spread of Islam in the subcontinent can’t be overlooked and the government should immediately rescind its campaign against them, otherwise it may evoke strong response from the people,” he said.
Sindh Jamaat-i-Islami Amir Asadullah Bhutto also took strong exception to the registration ordinance issued by the government and termed it open interference in religious matters.
He said the government was running its financial affairs by acquiring foreign grants and assistance from international donor agencies while banning donations for religious schools.—PPI
