GUJRANWALA, June 18: A district agricultural advisory committee will lend Rs34 million to farmers for paddy crop by June 30.

It was announced at a meeting presided over by district coordination officer here on Tuesday.

The committee reviewed the issues of farmers regarding bank loans and provision of oil, seed, pesticides and agricultural equipment.

It urged Agriculture Development Bank and other government functionaries to provide better facilities to the farmers, enabling them to yield more products.

The participants were informed that cooperative department would release Rs130 million for farmers for buying tractors and equipment by July 15.

DEATH SENTENCE: The local Anti-Terrorism Court No 2 on Tuesday awarded death sentence to Muhammad Abbas alias Malangi of Gakkhar Town.

The court ordered the convict would be hanged on July 4. The appeal of the convict was reportedly dismissed by the High Court and the Supreme Court.

Malangi killed a man during a dacoity bid in Gakkhar Town a couple of years ago, the prosecution said.
