SHIKARPUR, June 19: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro has said that no one will be rendered jobless and in this regard many packages are being introduced in the province.
These include the permanent rehabilitation package given by President Gen Pervez Musharraf from Zakat funds in order to overcome problems of unemployment.
The governor was talking to newsmen at the district council here on Thursday.
He said the government was trying to improve the socio- economic condition of the people and expressed determination to provide the facilities of health, education, agriculture, communication and social welfare services to the people at their doorsteps without any discrimination.
Mr Soomro said efforts were being made to properly utilize funds allocated for development schemes particularly in health and education sectors.
He pledged to rectify irregularities and ensure transparency in the use of funds in all the government departments.
He said action would be taken against those who misused the government funds and were found guilty of irregularities.
CHEQUES DISTRIBUTED: Speaking at an open kutchery held at the district council here in connection with distribution of cheques among jobless persons as financial assistance provided from Zakat and Ushr funds under the package of permanent rehabilitation, Mr Soomro said many of the jobless persons would be benefited under the package.
However, he emphasized the need of providing financial assistance transparently to the deserving persons.
Later the governor distributed the cheques amounting to Rs2,265,000 among 185 jobless persons at different rates from Rs10,000 to Rs50,000. Under this package, Rs13,600 million will also be distributed among 788 jobless persons in the district.
Meanwhile, Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro met with District Nazim Mohammad Arif Khan, District Naib Nazim Zafar Ahmed Shaikh, Sindh NPP President Dr Mohammad Ibrahim Jatoi, minority leader Jat Jai Veshin and discussed problems of the area.
He also held meeting with AIGP Syed Nayar Hasnain Hdyer, AIG, Crime, Sukkur region, Mushtaq Ali Shah, DCO Tahir Shahbaz and discussed law and order situation of the district.
He assured to resolve the problems presented by the people and said the government was making efforts to settle the water shortage problem.
He added that within three days, water would be released in all canals to enable growers to meet their water needs for cultivating Kharif crops.
APP ADDS: Sindh Governor Mohammedmian Soomro said that the water flow in the Indus had considerably improved.
He was speaking at the District Council Hall on Thursday.
He said that action would be initiated against water thefts.
He said the discharge in the Indus river was increasing. He hoped that the situation would further stabilize in the coming weeks.
He said that secondary education would also be made free and maximum funds would be provided to upgrade the educational institutions of the province.
Regarding contesting the forthcoming election, the governor said that he would like to contest the election from Shikarpur or Jacobabad.
He further said that as yet he had not taken a decision about his candidacy in the coming election, and added that he would make it public whenever he decided to contest in it.
