61 headmasters issued notices

By Our Correspondent

GILGIT, June 9: Sixty-one headmasters have been issued show- cause notices for showing poor results by their institutions in all the five districts of Northern Areas, an official said on Sunday.

The Northern Areas Education Secretary, Saeed Ahmed Khan, said the headmasters, mostly in the rural areas, had been asked to explain the causes of the poor results showed by their schools in the examinations of the Federal Board of Secondary Education that remained below 15 per cent.

He said of the 61 headmasters, so far the education authorities have received the explanation from only one even though the notices had been dispatched to them some two months back.

Mr Khan said for the last couple of years the education standard in various schools had been constantly deteriorating and it was imperative to take action in time before the things become worse in the schools.

He said after assuming the charge of education secretary, he had recommended various measures to improve the quality of education in the region and he had ordered to stop at least increments of the teachers if they failed to show required results.
