KARACHI: Residents demand basic facilities

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, June 2: Residents, including workers, of various kutcha abadis of Nazimabad and Liaquatabad towns have demanded provision of basic civic facilities in their areas.

The residents of Jalalabad, Ferozabad, Siraj Colony, Aurangabad, and Jehangirabad, etc., made these demands at a demonstration staged at the Press Club on Sunday.

Labour councillor Shamsuddin, who led the demonstration, said that though these settlements were very old, basic civic amenities, like metalled roads, clean drinking water, gas, electricity, sewerage system, school, maternity home, playground, etc., were not being provided to the residents.

He said that he had been urging the concerned nazim and naib nazims but the issues had not been solved, so the residents decided to stage a demonstration to highlight their problems.

The demonstrators were holding placards and chanting slogans in support of their demands.
