JHANG, May 31: An alleged dacoit was killed while his two accomplices managed to escape after an exchange of fire between them and two watchmen in the Satellite Town area of Chiniot city on Thursday night.

Three dacoits entered a house in Rahmanabad. The family raised an alarm on seeing the dacoits. The dacoits got unnerved and fled towards Satellite Town area where two armed watchmen intercepted them. They opened fire on the dacoits. The dacoits returned the fire and a shootout continued for about 10 minutes as a result of which a dacoit was killed. He was later identified as Qaisar.

His body was sent to the THQ Hospital for autopsy.

RECOVERED: Porno video films, playing cards, cancelled driving and arms licences, army pension books, Baitul Maal passbooks, a large number of undelivered identity cards and fake postal stamps were recovered from the office and house of the Chiniot post master in a raid conducted by a team of the monitoring cell of ministry of communications on Thursday.

The raid was conducted on the information provided by a councillor from Chiniot, Malik Mushtaq, on the office and official residential quarter of Malik Abdul Majeed. When contacted, Mr Majeed denied the recovery of any obscene material from his house or office. He, however, admitted that pension books were lying in his office for their delivery to the Lahore GPO.

DEATH SENTENCE: An additional district and sessions judge on Friday sentenced a killer to death in a murder case.

Convict Nasir Abbas of Quarashian locality of Shorkot city shot dead Hafizur Rahman of the same locality on April 26, 2001.

The court acquitted his co-accused Abdur Rahman and Abdul Ghafoor by giving them the benefit of the doubt.
