Three held in DSP murder case

By Our Correspondent

KOHAT, May 29: The newly-created police investigation cell has solved the murder case of DSP Serai Naurang, Bannu, who was assassinated by criminals last year, police sources said here on Wednesday.

Similarly, the cell also arrested a hardened criminal who was active in Latambar, Karak district since 1993 and wanted in murder, hijacking, highway robberies and dacoities. He was living in the area in the guise of a Maulvi.

The SP investigation, Mohammad Saeed, informed Dawn that the challans of both the cases have been submitted in the court and the three accused have also been handed over to the police stations concerned in Bannu and Karak districts.

He revealed that the slain DSP Sultan Mahmood had initiated an operation against the gang of criminals and asked all the SHOs to arrest its members. This infuriated the gangsters who killed him in his official vehicle on Nov 23, last year.

He further said the case was handed over to the Kohat investigation cell which arrested two main accused Burhanullah and Changez Khan, residents of Kotki and Imam Din in Mohammad Ghazni Khel. On their information the police also seized two Kalashnikovs hidden at secret places in the accused houses.

In the other case the Kohat police constituted a team to find out the person, who according to victims, hijacked vehicles and looted passengers at gunpoint in various parts of the district.

The police arrested Maulvi Shafiur Rehman, resident of Latambar, who was identified by a woman whom he had looted Rs 28,000.
