HYDERABAD, May 23: Hyderabad District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman on Wednesday said that out of Rs92 million, earmarked for the schemes under the Sugur Cess Programme (SCP), Rs36 million had been kept for ongoing schemes of 1998 while the remaining amount would be distributed among talukas keeping in view the number of sugar mills in each taluka.

He said this while presiding over a meeting of taluka Nazims and Nazims of union councils of Hyderabad, Tando Mohammad Khan, and Matiari talukas.

He asked union council Nazims of Hyderabad taluka to identify schemes worth Rs10 million on priority basis so that tenders could be floated immediately.

Similarly, union council Nazims of Tando Mohammad Khan and Matiari talukas were directed to come up with ten schemes each of Rs2.6 million by Monday.

He said it must be ensured that no scheme was left incomplete.

Mr Rafiquzzaman also asked them to keep names of various roads in their talukas and added that theses names should be kept after prominent personalities who had worked for the welfare of people of the area. He added that a committee would be constituted to finalize names of the roads.

Mr Zaman announced that from next month, he, along with the DCO, would hold open kutcheries in every taluka headquarter.

SRTC: A four-member delegation of the employees of the defunct SRTC called on Hyderabad District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman and DCO Mir Hussain Ali at the Shahbaz Hall and appraised them of their problems, including nonpayment of salaries.

The district Nazim and the DCO assured them that their problems would be resolved and said they would meet the Sindh governor to apprise him of the employees’ problems.

CRIMINALS ARRESTED: In the on-going crackdown against criminals, the Hyderabad region police has arrested 15 absconders, an army deserter, seven criminals, and three Patharidars.

It has recovered five pistols, a revolver, a shotgun, 22 cartridges, and nine live rounds from their possession.
