Hasan-Khalid help team to finish on top


Karachi, May 20: The two pairs of Candyland, Zia-Hamid and Hasan Askari-Khalid Mohiuddin are dominating the local bridge scene.

They scored 117 Victory Points (VP) in the weekly Swiss Bridge Contest Sunday.

Despite the fact that mercury shot to nearly 43 degrees celsius, yet 19 teams turned up to test their skills. Candyland started their maneuvering right from the word go and that too with a bang when they outpaced Shahab 25-5, outwitted Akbar 23-7, defeated shipyard 19-11 and overwhelmed Aces and CNG by the identical scores 25-5.

Shipyard with Ghufran Ashraf, Shahab Khan, Masood Mazhar, Farhat Abbas Baber Iqbal, Zahoor Kazmi scored 92 VP for second spot. They won four matches from Vohra 19-11, Lipton 18-12, Akbar 21-9 and Abedies 23-7.

Chandna claimed third berth with a score of 84 Victory Points. Shakeel Chandna, Navaid Anjum, Saleem and Shameem played for Chandna.

Pairs even was also contested on Friday. From the Red House Anwar Kamal-Irfan Khan and Chaudhry Sharif-Syed Ameer Hasan put up a spirited fight for the prime spot. The former pair ably maintained their lead with a score of 68.8 percent just a shade above the other pair which scored 67.89 percent and had to content for the second berth. Azmatullah-Tariq Zafar scored 57.44% for the third position.

In the other house, Masud Mazhar-Abdul Khaliq occupied first position with a score of 62.50 percent, followed by Afzal Shaiikh-Zaeem Lutfi 61.90 and Tariq Rasheed Khan - Rashidul Ghazi 59.52 percent for the lower positions.

In the meantime the monthly pair contest at Karachi Gymkhana will be held on Tuesday. The contest will start at 6.00 p.m. sharp.—APP
