HYDERABAD: Nazim laments water shortage in Hyderabad
Bureau Report
HYDERABAD, May 20: Hyderabad City Taluka Nazim Haji Moinuddin Shaikh has expressed concern over the non-supply of drinking water in the city.
In a statement issued here on Monday, Mr Shaikh deplored that in some areas, contaminated water was being supplied.
He said the non-supply of drinking water had made the lives of the people miserable and alleged that the Wasa authorities had taken no notice of the miseries of the people.
He said the Wasa officials were sitting in air-conditioned rooms and its employees were starving due to non-payment of their salaries and the people of the city were not getting water despite paying fat bills.
Mr Shaikh demanded of the Sindh government to take notice of the apathy of the Wasa officials and direct them to perform their duties with honesty.
DEVELOPMENT SCHEMES: The Taluka Nazim, Hyderabad city, Haji Moinuddin Shaikh regretted the attitude of the DCO, Hyderabad, who is also the project director of the Khushhal Pakistan Programme, saying that the city taluka was being totally ignored in respect of development schemes.
In a statement issued on Sunday, he said that stepmotherly treatment was being meted out to the city Taluka by the district administration of Hyderabad.
He said that while development works were being carried out in the selected areas, the development schemes submitted by the city Taluka were being ignored.
He said that it was an irony that out of Rs850 million earmarked for various development schemes, an amount of Rs5 million only had been allocated for the schemes of Hyderabad city, although all canons of justice demanded that at least Rs40 million should have been earmarked for the city Taluka schemes.
The city Taluka Nazim said that the funds were neither being provided to the city Taluka on the basis of population nor on the basis of the number of union councils.
He demanded the government to provide funds directly to the talukas under the Khushhal Pakistan Programme.
The city taluka Nazim claimed that work under the tenders was given at 18 per cent low rate in theory but in practice the case was quite different due to which a loss of Rs6 million had occurred.
He said the result was that the roads were already showing signs of decay as they had not been constructed in accordance with the specifications.
The city Taluka Nazim further complained that earlier too the main city roads had been ignored and the streets and lanes in Baldia Colony, Lalu Lashari goth and Wadhoon Ka Pir were constructed. He said that these schemes had not been given priority by the city Taluka.
He said first of all, the main roads and thoroughfares should be constructed and only then should work be carried out in the lanes and streets.
Mr Shaikh complained that even though he was a Taluka Nazim, yet he was not invited to attend the meetings of the Khushhal Pakistan Programme nor was he ever consulted. He also complained that he was never informed about the visit of any VIP.
He said that since Hyderabad was the second biggest city of Sindh province, therefore no injustice should be done with the people of the city.
He appealed to the district Nazim to give due rights to the city Taluka and help resolve its problems.
