EU agrees on fate of 13 exiles

MYKONOS (Greece), May 20: European Union nations have reached an agreement on the final destinations of the 13 Palestinians exiled by Israel to Cyprus, Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Pique said on Monday.

Pique said the EU’s Middle East regional representative Miguel-Angel Moratinos, who is in Cyprus, “said that everything is okay and I can confirm to you that tomorrow (Tuesday) a Spanish military aircraft will be in Cyprus,” Pique said.

“According to the information I have, the plane will make a first stop in Athens, a second in Rome and a third in Madrid to deliver the Palestinians to Greece, to Italy, to Spain, then to Portugal, to Ireland and to Belgium.”

One of the 13 will remain in Cyprus, said Pique, whose country holds the rotating presidency of the European Union.—AFP
