ISLAMABAD, May 19: Pakistan will cooperate with the world community to ensure early reconstruction of Afghanistan, Minister for Communications and Railways Lt-Gen (Rtd) Javed Ashraf Qazi said on Sunday.

He was presiding over a meeting which discussed the issue of Afghanistan’s reconstruction.

The meeting was also attended by Secretary Communications Iftikhar Rashid, Member Finance Khurshid Ahmad Khan, Chairman of the National Highway Authority Maj-Gen Farrukh Javed, Director- General of Pakistan Post Iftikharuddin and senior officers of the communications ministry.

Mr Qazi said Pakistan desired peace in Afghanistan so that the reconstruction process could be started at the earliest. He said construction of the communication infrastructure would put Afghanistan on a track towards socio-economic development.

Expressing satisfaction on the gradual improvement of political situation in Afghanistan, the minister said bright opportunities were being generated for socio-economic development of Afghanistan—APP
