PESHAWAR, May 19: The NWFP government has replaced a member of the Provincial Finance Commission (PFC) in compliance with the instructions by a leading international funding agency, according to sources.
Azam Khan, former chief secretary of NWFP presently associated with the UNDP, has been removed from the PFC replacing him with the World Bank fame economist Dr Zubair — also representing NWFP in the new National Finance Commission.
Dr Zubair has been appointed to the PFC, according to sources, in compliance with the IMF’s directives to the federal government to involve technical persons in the process of formulating PFC award for distribution of resources among the district governments as well as devolving financial powers from the provincial government to the newly formed district governments.
According to sources, the new appointment to the PFC has been made in line with the donor agencies’ requirements.
