KARACHI, May 16: The anti-terrorism court No 2, headed by Judge Abdul Ghafoor Memon, deferred on Thursday the judgment in a case pertaining to the killing of 10 faithfuls in a mosque against two workers of the banned Sipah-i- Sahaba Pakistan.

The judge fixed Friday for announcement of the judgment.

Dilawar alias Dildar and Saeed Awan have been prosecuted in the case.

Nine people were killed on the spot, one died later and five others injured when worshippers were sprayed with bullets during Fajr prayers in Hur Mosque in Al-Falah Colony off Sharea Faisal.

Those killed were Syed Ejaz Husain Kazmi, 50; Syed Zulfiqar Anwar Taqvi, 45; Mohammed Nawaz, 50; Syed Hasnain Naqvi, 53; Syed Safdar Abbas Naqvi, 21; Jamshed Abbas, 35; Nazeer Ahmed, 55; Imtiaz Husain, 18, and Amjad Ali, 18. Syed Hasnain Naqvi and Syed Safdar Abbas Naqvi were father and son, respectively. The injured were Ghulam Husain (prayer leader), Syed Tasweer Husain (muezzin), Mohammed Anwar and Altaf Husain.

Saeed had earlier been sentenced to death for killing DSP Sadiq Husain and his son. Dilawar had also been condemned to death in a double-murder case by the ATC-1 last month.

CORRUPTION REFERENCE: An accountability court reserved the judgment in a corruption reference against a former Sindh minister of excise, Ismail Rahu, and others after hearing final arguments by the defence and the prosecution.

Judge Riaz Ahmed of the AC-2 fixed June 22 for announcement of the judgment.

Besides the former Sindh minister, Agha Abbas Wazir, a former excise and taxation officer, Kaka Krishinchand, Raj Kumar and Asher Jan were prosecuted for bringing liquor from Rawalpindi to Karachi on 33 fake import permits.

Former MPA Mehrumal Jagwani, his manager Bhagwandas, and three officials of the excise and taxation department, Iqbal Solangi, Majeed Pathan and Niaz Ahmed, have already been declared absconders in the case.

REMANDED: The special banking court remanded a manager and a head cashier of National Bank of Pakistan in the custody of the Federal Investigation Agency for interrogation for 10 days.

Abdus Sattar and Syed Zia Haider, former manager and cashier, respectively, at the NBP’s Lyari branch, were arrested on Wednesday by the Commercial Banks Circle-1 of the FIA on a complaint of a bank official.

Investigation officer sub-inspector Shah Adeel stated before the judge of the Court that the two suspects had allegedly been involved in the misappropriation of more than Rs6 million.

The judge ordered the IO to produce the suspects in the court on May 26.
