KARACHI: Comments sought

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, May 13: The steering committee on higher education has sought comments on the draft university ordinance from university teachers.

A meeting of the committee was held at the Aga Khan University the other day, which was attended by teachers and students of the University of Karachi and NED University of Engineering and Technology.

Shams Kassim Lakha, Dr Zafar Sayied Saify and Mazharul Haq Siddiqui represented, among others, the steering committee, said sources privy to the meeting.

Teachers were invited in their individual capacity. However, some of the teachers from the University of Karachi, who also happened to be the members of the varsity teachers’ body, pointed out to the committee that it would be proper if the elected members of different bodies of the university were also invited for the discussion on the proposed ordinance.

The secretary of the Karachi University Teachers’ Society, Sarwar Naseem, told Dawn that the committee had agreed to invite the elected representatives of teachers from the university as well, tentatively in July, when the feedback on the draft ordinance would be recorded.
