KARACHI, May 12: It is a fact that a revolutionist never belongs to the aristocracy but always from the middle class, and changes in any part of the world take place when their middle class struggles in a positive way.

But unfortunately, a survey conducted recently has revealed the fact that in Pakistan, the middle class has been unable to play its role, specially during the last two decades.

During the survey, an old man said that if we compare the last decade with the previous four decades, we see that steps have been taken to break the will of the middle class. The rate of inflation is increasing day by day while on the other hand, jobs are decreasing with the same speed.

An old woman, expressing her view, said that a strong middle class means a strong Pakistan. But now, the middle class has no curiosity left to judge what is right or wrong as they have busied themselves in earning more and more money due to inflation, as well as the desire to achieve the artificial necessities of life.

Education was the weapon of the middle class and by getting a good education and earning better, they were able to take up all types of professions, said a doctor.

It seems that the right to get a better education is being taken away by force from the middle class and lower-middle class deliberately, because if they become educated, how would the aristocracy rule over them.

Many students, specially from the middle class, are unable to get good education and most of them have to leave their education after Matriculation due to family pressures and obligations to earn, they said.

A conspiracy has been hatched to isolate the role of the middle class in society,. Earlier, equal facilities of leading a better life and the right of getting a better education were available to all classes of society. But now, the poor are growing more poor and rich more rich, said a working woman. She said that now, schools resembling palaces, charging a high fees and providing better quality of education are specified for the upper class while for the students of the middle and lower- middle class, government schools are present.

The survey said that feelings of deprivation are building up in the middle class and lower-middle class youth because of decreasing chances to get a better education.

It seems that technical education from good institutes is specified for a specified class. All the institutes of information technology are charging thousands of rupees even for short courses, said a student of graduation.

According to the survey, some famous institutes and IT universities charge more than Rs20,000 per semester. On the one hand, the ministry of sciences and technology claims to be taking revolutionary steps in the specified field. On the other hand, students belonging to the middle and lower-middle class are facing unfavourable conditions. The same situation prevails in the field of MBA, MBBS and BE.

The middle class of any country plays a vital role in its development. We have the examples of developed countries where most of the rulers belong to the middle class because equal opportunities are present for every class. In a developed country, a Prime Minister had even been a bus conductor in his youth. But in Pakistan, no one can think of becoming the Prime Minister except aristocrats.—PPI
