PESHAWAR, May 10: A court on Thursday sentenced a person to death in a quadruple-murder case of Mathra area.

The accused, Afzal Mohammad, was charged of killing his father, Fazal Mohammad, mother, Fatima  Bibi,  sister,  Rizwana Kausar, and uncle, Ghulam Mustapha, and injuring his sister, Abida.

The court, presided over by Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Saleem Khan, sentenced him to death. He was also sentenced to life imprisonment on three counts.

Advocates Mahmood Alam Khan and Mohammad Naseem Khan appeared for the prosecution and argued that Fazal Mohammad had charged the accused of the murders in hospital before his death.

The incident had occurred on Sept 26, 1996, at Shagai Hindkian area of Mathra. An FIR was registered by Mathra police station after the statement of Fazal Mohammad was recorded.

The prosecution had claimed that the accused wanted to marry Ghulam Mustapha’s daughter but he refused. On the day of the incidence, when Mustapha visited his house, the accused started firing on the family.

The court had also referred the accused to a psychiatrist to ascertain whether he was suffering from any mental ailment but his medical report did not suggest any mental disorder.

ACQUITTED: The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Sardar Mohammad Irshad Khan on Thursday acquitted a person accused of drug pushing.
