Mujahideen won’t end struggle: MJC
MUZAFFARABAD, April 23: The Muttahida Jihad Council (MJC), an alliance of Kashmiri Mujahideen groups fighting against Indian rule in held Kashmir, on Tuesday said the Mujahideen would not end armed struggle until New Delhi agreed to some basic points, leading to the settlement of the longstanding issue.
The alliance, in a statement issued here, censured Kashmiri leaders who, it said, were terming the armed struggle futile and harmful and suggesting (the fighters to adopt) peaceful political means (for settlement of the issue).
“The course of armed struggle was adopted after the peaceful efforts over more than four decades failed to convince the stubborn Indian leadership to resolve the internationally-recognized dispute,” the statement said.
“India does not accept Kashmir as a disputed region nor it has given any indication that it is ready to give up the illegal occupation of the state. Under these circumstances, how come the armed struggle be stopped?”
The leaders suggesting that the armed struggle should be given up, were supplementing the designs of the enemy (India) and committing betrayal with the blood of more than 80,000 martyrs, said the MJC statement without naming those leaders.
The alliance statement came in the wake of what it said was a secret meeting of Kashmiri leaders from both parts of Kashmir in Dubai (UAE) on April 17.
Former chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and senior Hurriyat leader Abdul Ghani Lone and National Kashmir Committee Chairman Sardar Abdul Qayyum were prominent among the participants.
The Indian Express newspaper on Sunday quoted Mr Lone as saying that there was an immediate need for complete withdrawal of foreign militants from Kashmir since Jihad was tainting the movement.
The MJC said the statements of Sardar Abdul Qayyum were disappointing and highly detrimental to the freedom struggle and called for correction of his thinking or his removal from the office.
“The Jihad Council wants to make it clear that unless India accepts the disputed status of Kashmir and agrees to resolving the issue in accordance with the UN resolutions, accepting any offer of talks from it will be damaging for the freedom struggle.”
The MJC said the coming election in held Kashmir was a farce and expressed the hope that the Kashmiris would reject them.
