PESHAWAR, April 12: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), crime wing, on Thursday arrested an assistant director of Federally Administered Tribal Areas Development Corporation on the charges of embezzling Rs11.8 million.
FIA sources informed Dawn that Yar Khan, assistant director at cost and valuation section of the corporation, was arrested during a raid on his office. They said he was nabbed on charges of embezzlement of Rs11.8 million during June 1996 to June 2000.
Sources disclosed that efforts were under way to arrest his alleged accomplice, former finance director, Mohammad Rohan Khan, who had fled.
They said the officials had opened a bogus joint account, No.1803-1, in the Allied Bank, Warsak Road branch, through which they used to draw the Fata Development Corporation funds.
WEAPONS SEIZED: The Ormar police seized a big cache of arms and 10 Russian hand grenades in New Shamshatu area on Thursday.
Sources said a team of Ormar police station saw two persons coming from the tribal area, who left the weapons and fled to the tribal area. The police seized a 7mm rifle, a 303-bore rifle, three kalashnikovs, 10 pistols of 30-bore, 440 cartridges and 10 Russian hand grenades.
