Badla rates edge up

KARACHI, March 30: The average badla rates showed a modest increase over the last week at 13.6 to 14.7 per cent after the investment in 10 stocks rose to Rs6.52 billion from the previous Rs6.25 billion, depicting an increase of Rs267 million.

According to IP Securities, the badla market is expected to maintain an uppish leaning in the weeks to come also amid hopes of further improvement in the stock market thanks to strong speculative and institutional buying.

Badla rates (Carry Over Transactions) fluctuated between 13.6 per cent on the lower and 14.7 per cent on the higher side as against previous week’s 12 and 13.9 per cent in that order.

COT investment in market leaders, notably PTCL fell by Rs160m to Rs.1.27bn because of lower volume of 65m shares, while in other major shares including PSO and Hub-Power rose by Rs121.6m to Rs.1.37bn and Rs.120.7m to Rs1.46bn respectively.

The average badla rates in PTCL, PSO and Hub-Power fluctuated between 10.8 to 11.9 per cent, 14.2 to 15 per cent and 12.4 to 13.1 per cent in that order.

The total badla business in leading shares was up by 10.7m shares at 252.7m shares as compared to 242m shares a week earlier.
