KARACHI, March 26: Governor Sindh Mohammedmian Soomro has said that transparency and merit will be ensured in the recruitment process of government employment.
He stated this during his visit to the Karachi branch of the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) on Tuesday.
He said that the principle of merit was being employed in all the departments, all the matters relating to the SPSC had been institutionalised and now it was free from political pressures and interference.
The objective of the government, Mr Soomro said, was to provide equal opportunities to all.
Chairman of the Commission, M.M. Usmani, briefed the governor in detail about the organisation and said that complete transparency was being maintained at all stages - from the receipt of applications to the selection of candidates.
He said that the application forms had been simplified and all discriminatory questions had been removed.
The governor stressed the need for ensuring timely delivery of postage to candidates. Taking notice of the absence of a doctor member during a recent interview, the governor issued directive for formal action in that respect.
Later talking to the candidates for recruitment as ASIs, Mr Soomro said that the government was making all possible efforts to provide jobs to the unemployed and steps were being taken in that connection in both government and non-government sectors. He said that investment opportunities in the private sector were being improved and opportunities of self-employment were being provided.
He inspected different offices of the SPSC and briefly spoke to interviewers and candidates. He directed that law and regulations for recruitment and promotions in all the departments be updated.
Later, the governor visited the office of the Sindh Land Commission (SLC) where chief of the SLC, Justice (rtd) Abdur Rehman briefed him about the sale of state-owned lands.
He informed the governor about the recovery of cost, as per market value, of the lands allotted on throwaway prices during various governments.—APP/PPI
