WASHINGTON, March 20: The United States has sent a team of special agents from its Bureau of Diplomatic Security to Pakistan to assist with the investigation into last Sunday’s church bombing in Islamabad.
State Department spokesman Richard Boucher told his briefing on Tuesday that other “US law enforcement assets” already in Pakistan were also working on the bombing and were assisting Pakistani authorities.
Boucher added: “We are making every effort to work with Pakistan on the issue. Pakistani authorities are making every effort to identify swiftly the terrorists who attacked the church in Islamabad on Sunday and to bring them to justice. At this point, there are still no claims of responsibility for the attack, and there have been no arrests.”
The spokesman said the identity of the fifth body found at the site of the bombing had not been established so far.
Reports in Pakistani newspapers have speculated that the body might be of the attacker, and it was said on Wednesday DNA samples from the body were being sent to the US for analysis.
