Navy expelled from event

WAH Cantt, March 20: Pakistan Navy were expelled from the competition after one of their reserves hit and seriously injured a PTCL playnal Hockey Championship at POF Wah astro-turf on Wednesday.

“I have expelled the Navy team and am writing to PHF for any further action by them,” tournament director of the qualifying round, Rana Liaquat, told APP after the penultimte day’s fixtures were completed.

According to details, the players from the two teams had an exchange of words. At this stage, a reserve player of Navy, Zahid, ran onto the field and hit PTCL Imran Rasool in the head.

Imran was taken to the hospital, needing six-seven stitches on his wound.

After penultimate day’s matches, Wapda, Habib Bank, Allied Bank and PTCL have qualified for the main round.

PIA and Habib Bank have also almost advanced to the final round from the pool B but there was a three-way race for remaining two berths between Railways, Police and Army.—APP
