KARACHI: 11 cars, 12 bikes hijacked: Bandits shoot man to death

KARACHI, March 18: Motorcycle hijackers shot a man to death in Gulshan-i- Iqbal on Monday evening.
The police said that Jehandad Khan, aged 40, was going on his motorcycle when he was intercepted near Gilani railway station by two unidentified armed men.
When Khan tried to put up resistance to the bandits, they opened fire on him and escaped. He was rushed to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where he died.
CARJACKING: Twenty-three vehicles — 11 cars and 12 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city on Monday, the police said.
Six cars were hijacked. Five others were stolen.
Four motorcycles were hijacked. Eight others were stolen.
The police also claimed on Monday to have recovered three vehicles (PL-3298, KCQ-6531, and KCI-692) in the city.
ROBBERIES: Four robberies were committed in the city on Monday, the police said.
Four armed men barged into the house of a staffer the PHPL in Baloch Colony and got away with cash, a car and other valuables.
The bandits entered the house around 4am and remained there for more than two hours. They held the family of Nauman Qureshi, Assistant Manager in Management Information Service, as hostage at gunpoint, collected Rs450,000, a VCR, a TV set, a mobile phone set and other valuables and drove away in the family’s car (ADL-645).
The police registered the case. The car was later found abandoned. Further investigation is in progress.
Khursheed Amjad lodged an FIR at Model Colony police station that unidentified men robbed him of cash, gold jewellery and other valuables at gunpoint in his home.
Mohammed Rafiq lodged a complaint at Al-Falah police station that two unidentified men bared into his home and got way with gold jewellery and a pistol at gunpoint.
Shahid Pervaiz lodged an FIR at the area police station that two unidentified men robbed him of cash at gunpoint in North Nazimabad.
INJURED: The police arrested two suspects and recovered cash and a hijacked vehicle from their possession after a brief shootout in Korangi on Monday.
The police said that Taj Mohammed boarded a bus after withdrawing Rs300,000 from Habib Bank’s Chamra Chowrangi branch in Korangi. As the bus reached Gharib Nawaz Road, a car (No ADN-946) intercepted the bus and dragged Taj out. Five armed men snatched the cash at gunpoint and escaped.
The victim raised alarm. A police mobile which was passing through the area chased after the car following which a shootout occurred.
The police arrested Majid Shah and Ghulam Rasool, who were injured in the shootout. The three other bandits escaped.
KILLED: A vendor was killed in the early hours of Monday morning in Pak Colony.
The police said that Mohammed Sarwar, aged 52, was hit with a blunt object on his head while asleep in his home in Pak Colony. He died on the spot. The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.
Later, the body was handed over to Edhi for burial as Sarwar had no relative, the police said.
The police were clueless about the motive behind the killing.
DIES: Partially decomposed body of a man was found in Shershah on Monday.
The police said that the body was several days old which was found near a stormwater drain. The body was sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem.
