KARACHI: Security beefed up at religious places

KARACHI, March 17: Security measures have been extended to all churches and imambargah and heavy contingents of police and other law enforcement agencies have been deployed at all public places and sensitive areas.

“The security measures were already tightened for the month of Muharram. However, these are being extended to all churches due to possibilities of attacks on these worship places,” DIG (operations) Tariq Jameel said on Sunday.

The Sindh police have already been placed on a high alert and all leaves of the policemen have been cancelled.

He said police commandos and special scouts would be deployed in all sensitive areas to keep a vigil on terrorist activities.

Senior police officials would visit the sensitive areas in special helicopters, if needed, he said.—PPI
