KARACHI, March 15: The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi would disaffiliate the public and private intermediate colleges and higher secondary schools, which would have less than 33 per cent results in the coming examinations.

An official of the BIEK told newsmen here on Friday that board had decided to disaffiliate the colleges and higher secondary schools, which would fail to show at least 33 per cent results in the coming examinations.

The said order and decision of Board of Intermediate Education have been circulated among all the public, private colleges and higher secondary schools after having an approval from concerned authorities, he added.

He further informed that although the board was giving some relaxation on the issue of 75 per cent attendance to the colleges, they would not be allowed to operate unless they improve their performance.

Currently, some 20 per cent public and 10 per cent colleges are expected to be disaffiliated as some of them were showing less than 10 per cent results for the last several years.

During last examinations, more than 10 public and private colleges and higher secondary schools managed to get less than 10 per cent results.

Giving the details of colleges and schools affiliated with Board of Intermediate Education, he informed that some 59 male and 33 female public colleges are affiliated with the board, whereas 11 public higher secondary schools each are also affiliated with the board.

Almost 20 per cent are continuously showing less than 33 per cent results for last three to four years, he maintained.

In addition to this, there are 51 male and 20 female private colleges in the country while 27 male and nine female higher secondary schools are also operating in the city with registration with the board.

Some 21 public and 10 private colleges and higher secondary schools, which are continuously showing poor results, are expected to be disaffiliated by the board.

According to him, the proposal was sent to the Sindh Education Department and the governor for approval, and now it has been circulated among all the colleges and higher secondary schools to improve their academics or get ready for disaffiliation with the board.—PPI
