KARACHI, March 15: A high-level meeting held here on Friday with Governor Mohammadmian Soomro in the chair, decided to carry out checking of the vehicles without any discrimination to foil evil designs of criminals and terrorists who might use vehicles with official number plates, ambulances or women for committing any crime.
The governor directed the police to intensify patrolling on main roads as well as other areas besides keeping a strict vigil on streets.
He also stressed on heli-patrolling, use of zoom cameras and strengthening of intelligence network.
The IGP Sindh, Syed Kamal Shah, informed that zoom cameras have been installed at different places in Karachi.
The meeting also decided to withdraw police force and vehicles posted unnecessarily for the security of various personalities and to formulate a transparent policy in this respect.
The governor stressed on taking every possible step to ensure law and order in Karachi and other parts of the province during Muharramul Haram and said that the District Nazims should play their role in this respect.
The District Nazims were asked to remain present in their respective district during Muharramul Haram to cope with any emergency.
The meeting discussed various suggestions for maintaining peace and tranquillity in the province during Ashura.
Chief Secretary Javed Ashraf Hussain, Director-General Rangers Maj-Gen Shahid Tirmizi, Principal Secretary to Governor Akhtar Zamin, Brig. Muhammad Javed Akhtar of Corps 5, Home Secretary Brig. Mukhtar Ahmed, City Police Chief Asad Jehangir, DIG Operations Karachi Tariq Jamil, Secretary Information Shahnaz Hamid and other officials attended the meeting.
DG Rangers, the IGP and the home secretary informed the governor that the police have recently arrested six accused involved in 21 murders.—APP
