PESHAWAR: Afghan woman dies at UNHCR centre

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, March 14: Another Afghan woman died of heart attack at Takhta Baig Voluntary Repatriation Centre, Khyber Agency, on Thursday, United Nations High Commi-ssion for Refugees (UNHCR) officials said here.

Bibi Haji, 56, resident of Kabul, suffered a severe heart attack, while she was waiting for her turn outside the centre.

She was immediately shifted to the medical camp at the centre and provided with first aid. She, however, died on her way to the Hayatabad Medical Complex. Two refugee women have died of heart failure at the repatriation centre in the past 48 hours.

REGISTERED: Meanwhile, the UNHCR registered 6,579 refugees at the voluntary repatriation centre.

After verification, the registered refugee families were driven to Torkham checkpost from where they crossed into Af-ghanistan. Official sources at Torkham confirmed that over 3,100 Afghans had returned to their country on their own.

AFGHANS DEPORTED: Border security forces on Thursday deported 89 illegal Afghan nationals to Afghanistan at the Torkham checkpost, official sources told Dawn.
