KARACHI, March 13: In pursuance of the Sindh Compulsory Primary Education Ordinance 2001, the provincial education department has selected 16 talukas in interior of Sindh and five towns in Karachi for compulsory primary education in the first phase from April 1.

The five towns in Karachi are: Lyari, Gulberg, Shah Faisal, Gadap, and Orangi.

The 16 talukas (subdivisions) include Hala, district Hyderabad; Matli, district Badin; Dadu; Sujawal, district Thatta; Rohri, district Sukkur; Khairpur; Mirpur Mathelo, district Ghotki; Naushehro Feroze; Sakrand, district Nawabshah; Ratodero, district Larkana; Jacobabad; Lakhi, district Shikarpur; Mirpurkhas; Nagarparkar, district Mithi; and Tando Adam, district Sanghar.

The authority shall ensure that every child of 5 to 11 years of age attends primary school. The executive district officers education of every district shall ensure proper implementation of the ordinance.—PPI
