KPT raises charge-free period

LAHORE, March 12: The Karachi Port Trust has abolished the discretionary powers of its regarding demurrage and increased the charge-free period to 10 days from seven days.

This was stated by KPT chairman Ahmed Hayat while addressing businessmen here at the LCCI on Tuesday. He said the KPT had started revamping the procedures to simplify them and implemented a “box rate” in place of slabs of fines.

He said all efforts were being made to eliminate redundancy and enhance efficiency. He said the KPT staff had been rightsized by 25 per cent in four years, improving cargo handling efficiency by 15 per cent.
