ISLAMABAD, March 9: In a meeting with Afghan interim leader Hamid Karzai in Kabul, Minister for Women Development, Attiya Inayatullah conveyed President Pervez Musharraf’s greeting and message of support.
The Chairman of the Interim Administration of Afghanistan reciprocated the sentiments and appreciated Pakistani delegation’s participation in the Women’s Conference as an expression of solidarity for the women and girls of Afghanistan.
According to a message received here Saturday, Attiya Inayatullah, accompanied by Dr Mehr Taj, held meetings with the two women Ministers who hold the portfolios of Health and Women Affairs in the Afghan Administration.
In addition, the Pakistani delegation held meetings with Ministers of Education, Public Works, Urban Planning & Communication.
The Afghan authorities indicated areas of collaboration in the social sector specifically in matters which would help redress the long suffering and discrimination against women
The Afghan officials the need for cooperation for quick re-building of Afghanistan’s infrastructure, particularly roads and telecommunication was highlighted.
The need for reconstruction of the country was agreed upon as being essential for durable peace in Afghanistan.
This is the first Pakistani ministerial delegation to visit Afghanistan since the interim administration was installed under the Bonn Accord.
The Pakistani delegation was warmly welcomed in Kabul.—APP
