Irregularities found in varsity accounts

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, March 7: The Ad hoc Public Accounts Committee on Thursday took serious notice of massive irregularities and misappropriation in the accounts of the Balochistan University and directed that the cases be sent to the National Accountability Bureau for legal action.

The committee, in its meeting presided over by Malik Naeem Ahmed, reviewed the accounts of the university, Board of Revenue and education department for 1997-98.

The committee found misappropriation of over Rs2.9 million in the university’s accounts. The committee ordered that report should be submitted to the accounts committee about the recovery of Rs4.05 million from the people responsible for misappropriation in the university accounts.

The PAC directed the authorities concerned to conduct special audit of the Balochistan University accounts since 1990.

The committee expressed its concern over non-recovery of hostel dues for the last many years and directed the university administration to ensure recovery of the dues. It decided that in case of non-recovery of the dues, the amount would be recovered from the officials concerned.
