CEC’s powers given to EC members


ISLAMABAD, March 7: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Irshad Hasan Khan has delegated powers and functions of the CEC to members of the Election Commission in the areas covered by high courts in all the four provinces.

A press release, issued on Thursday by the Election Commission of Pakistan, says: “In exercise of the powers conferred upon the CEC under Article 3 of the Local Government Elections Order 2000 (Chief Executive Order No.8 of 2000), read with the Chief Executive Order No.9 of 2002, Pakistan Chief Election Commissioner Chief Justice Irshad Hasan Khan (Rtd) has issued an order that the following members of the Election Commission, appointed under the Election Commission Order 2002 (CE’s Order No.1 of 2002), shall exercise and perform all the powers and functions of the Chief Election Commissioner in respect of jurisdiction mentioned with their names:-

Mr Justice Mohammad Ashraf Leghari ( Sindh High Court’s jurisdiction), Mr Justice Nasim Sikandar ( Lahore High Court’s jurisdiction), Mr Justice Qazi Ehsanullah Qureshi ( Peshawar High Court’s jurisdiction) and Mr Justice Tariq Mehmood ( Balochistan High Court’s jurisdiction).—APP
