12 held for using unfair means

GUJRANWALA, March 6: Twelve candidates were caught on Wednesday while using unfair means in the secondary school certificate examinations of the Gujranwala Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education

Official sources said that board chairman Dr Muhammad Aslam Ghauri raided 50 examination centres of Sialkot, Gujranwala and Hafizabad districts.

He raided centres at Daska, Pasrur, Bin Bajwa, Wadala Sundhawan, Loherki, Chadala, Satrah, Talwandi Musa Khan, Satellite Town, Model Town, Peoples Colony, Alipur Chattha, Verpal Chattha, Qila Deedar Singh, Rahwali, Ghakhar, Wazirabad, Jalallpur Bhattian, Kaleki Mandi, Kolo Tarar, Veneki Tarar and Vini.

The chairman caught nine candidates while using unfair means at Satrah and Kamoki centres. He stayed about an hour at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Ghakhar, centre and got the seats of candidates arranged.

Board secretary Muhammad Ahtaram Dar raids 21 examination centres set up in remote areas of Sialkot and Gujrat. He caught three candidates while using unfair means.

PROBE ORDERED: Nausheran Virkan Tehsil Municipal Officer has ordered an inquiry into the embezzlement of funds for a water supply scheme.

According to details, Nausheran Virkan Tehsil Council got installed a turbine by a contractor at a cost of Rs1 million. The contractor handed over the charge of the turbine to tehsil council but it did not function.

The Tehsil Council officials did not take any action against the contractor when the residents on Nausheran Virkan protested. Instead, they told the people that the turbine would be got repaired within next few days. Meanwhile, an electric transformer and other material of turbine besides the relevant record disappeared mysteriously.

The residents of Nausheran Virkan strongly protested when the tehsil council issued them bills without providing them drinking water.
