Ahmedabad losses stand at Rs30,000m

AHMEDABAD March 2: The Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry President, Kalyan Shah, said on Saturday that the commercial loss to Ahmedabad was around Rs30,000 millions in the violence.

“With a daily turnover of Rs10,000 million in Ahmedabad alone, the two days of violence, arson and bandh has resulted in losses of over Rs30,000 million,” Shah said.

Meanwhile, the GCCI has asked the Maskati Market shopkeepers to keep their shops open on Saturday as a confidence-building measure.

The GCCI has also asked the gold market and Ahmedabad’s main commercial hub Manek Chowk market to open on Saturday.

“This is a confidence building measure. There seems to be some normalcy in the city and if shops and business establishments reopen, it will give some confidence to people,” Shah said.—NNI
