KARACHI, Feb 25: Two persons committed suicide and reckless driving claimed seven lives in the three days of Eid in the city.
SUICIDES: A young woman and a newly-married man apparently committed suicides in their homes in Gizri and Orangi Town on Sunday.
Police said Dr Shireen, aged 25, resident of Gizri, was alone in her home on Sunday when she shot herself to death with a pistol of her father, Alauddin. The circumstances which led her to kill herself could not be ascertained immediately, police said and added that investigations were under way and the possibility of murder could not be ruled out.
Mohammed Saquib sprinkled kerosene on his body and set himself on fire in his home in Sector 11-A in Orangi Town. Police said Saquib got married a month back and he was jobless. His father, Dr Ashfaq, admonished him for being without work and asked him to try to get a job.
ACCIDENTS: A six-year-old boy died when he came beneath the wheels of two vehicles on National Highway on Monday.
Police said Sameen, resident of Yusuf Goth, Shah Latif Town, Landhi, was walking across National Highway with his father, Mohammed, when he was hit by a car and then a Thatta-bound bus. He died on the spot. The body was sent to a hospital for autopsy. Sameen, a class two student, was the youngest son among Mohammed’s five children. Mohammed works as a butcher.
A young man died and his friend was injured when the motorcycle they were riding on was hit by a Suzuki pickup in Clifton on Saturday. Police said Imran, aged 20, and his friend Noman were riding on a motorcycle (MPS-2995) when a Suzuki pickup hit the motorcycle near a restaurant in Sea View. The pickup driver sped away. Imran and Noman were injured. They were rushed to a hospital where Imran, son of a sub-inspector of police, Malik Qurban, died.
A man died and three of his friends were injured when the jeep they were travelling on overturned on Khayaban-i-Shamsheer in Clifton on Saturday.
Abdul Khalil Marwat, Fareed, Rahman and Masood Shah were travelling on a jeep which overturned possibly due to speeding, police said and added that as a result of which all of those on the jeep were injured. Khalil died later.
A young man died and his two friends were injured when the motorcycle they were riding on skidded on Teen Hatti bridge on Saturday.
Police said Nazeer, Ali and Zafar were riding on a motorcycle when they slipped off in Teen Hatti and were injured. They were rushed to a hospital where Nazeer, aged 27, resident of New Karachi, died.
A 13-year-old boy was run over by a vehicle in New Karachi. The victim’s parents pardoned the driver of the vehicle and police let him off.
Naveed Qadeer, resident of sector 5-B/2 in New Karachi, came beneath the wheels of a vehicle. The area people caught the driver and handed him over to police.
A 55-year-old man, Abdus Samad died when he was hit by an unidentified vehicle near Al-Noor Mor in Samanabad on Saturday.
Nazakat, aged 30 was run over by a vehicle in New Town police limits on Saturday.
