Patwari, brother convicted

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, Feb 21: Accountability Court No 2, Quetta, awarded five-year rigorous imprisonment, and fined Rs11 million to a former patwari Shah Nawaz on Wednesday for corruption.

The court, comprising a senior Judge Muhammad Nadir Khan, also sentenced two-year rigorous imprisonment (RI), and fined Rs0.5 million to the brother of Haq Nawaz for making illegal assets beyond his known sources of income.

The judge also ordered forfeiture of their properties to the state against the fine imposed on them. In case of non-payment of fine, the convicts would undergo further two years and 1 year of RI respectively.

Both the accused have been debarred from holding or being elected to any public office, and disqualified to avail any financial facility from any bank or financial institution for a period of 10 years.

Shah Nawaz was appointed as Patwari in Settlement Office at Kalat in April 1981. During the course of his service he acquired assets by corruption misusing his official authority. His brother was also involved in the corrupt practices. The NAB had arrested them.
