ISLAMABAD, Feb 19: The chief executive secretariat has directed Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration to remove all illegally constructed mosques and Madaris and register all authorized mosques and Madaris in the federal capital by March 15.

In a letter to the ICT administration the secretariate on Tuesday also asked for a detailed report regarding the action to be taken by the ICT administration against unauthorised mosques and Madaris.

The administration has completed a fresh survey of Islamabad and detected some 70 unauthorised mosques and Madaris, a senior ICT official said. It reconfirmed that there was a total of 400 mosques and Madaris in the capital.

Some of them were reportedly established on the roadsides, green belts while many were build in violation of the CDA building laws.

Sources said the CES has been informed that the management committees of unauthorised mosques and Madaris had been contacted to acquire site plans of their buildings so that the illegalities, if any, could be confirmed.

The CES has also directed the ICT administration not to take any action against any mosque and Madaris without taking the management committees of these mosques and Madaris in confidence.

He said the official concerned have been directed to chalk out a plan to tackle the sensitive issue by providing alternate places to the mosque administrations.
