Irfan grabs winner for D. G. Khan

LAHORE, Jan 23: Mohammad Irfan scored a second half winner to help Dera Ghazi Khan edge past Rawalpindi 2-1 in the Punjab Under-16 inter-district hockey tournament Wednesday.

Dera Ghazi Khan took the lead through Navid Akbar in the 38the minute after a goalless first half.

Five minutes later, Rawalpindi got the equaliser through Mudassar Ali. Irfan netted in the 55th minute off a penalty corner.

Mohammad Afzal scored the match-winner to guide Hafizabad to a narrow 2-1 victory over Layyah.

Shahid Iqbal gave Hafizabad a 1-0 lead scoring in the 15th minute. Mubashir grabbed the equaliser seconds before half time hooter. Afzal slammed home the winning goal two minutes into the second half off a short corner.

A solitary goal from Ammar Hyder helped Gujranwala beat Jhelum 1-0. Ammar banged the 51st-minute stroke to Gujranwala a close win.

Khushab held Pakpattan to a 1-1 draw. Pakpattan went ahead with a Awais Sultan goal in the 31st minute. Khushab banged home the equaliser in the 57th minute through Khalil-ur-Rehman.

The match between Muzaffargarh and Sahiwal ended in a 1-all draw.

Muzaffargarh gained an early lead through Rafiq in the fifth minute. Farooq levelled in the 27th minute for Sahiwal.

Narowal routed Bahawalpur 3-0 after taking a 2-0 lead at half time.

Waqas pumped in the 2nd minute of the first half, while Irfan scored in the 27th and 45th minute.

Defending champions Lahore outclassed Mianwali 3-0. Shahzad Ali opened the scoring in the 17th minute and Atif Beg (36th and 57th minute) netted twice.

Sheikhupura registered a thumping 6-0 win over Attock. Ibrar Husain struck two goals (17th, 57th minute), while Mohammad Imran also got two (40th, 55th minute).

Azam Anwar (46th minute) and Mohammad Abbas (49th minute) were the other scorers.

Okara crushed Bahawalnagar 5-0. Zubair struck three times (20th, 28th, and 29th minutes), while Jawwad Ali (24th minute) and centre-forward (4th minute) were the other scorers.

Toba Tek Singh handed Chakwal a 6-0 defeat. Inayatullah (19th, 20th minute) and Usman Yasin (29th minute, 37th minute), and Asim Shafi (21st and 54th minute) shared six goals.
