KARACHI, Jan 21: The Pakistan Medical Association, Karachi branch, has said that the ever-crowded Civil Hospital is not only trying to help the poor patients of Karachi but also providing solace to thousands of patients who come from the interior of Sindh.

The PMA adds that the Civil Hospital is one of the leading teaching hospitals which deals with lots of patients every day. It is also the place where young doctors get a chance to learn from their seniors and pursue their post-graduation courses.

Meanwhile, the medical superintendent of the Civil Hospital, Noshad A. Shaikh, has said that there is no shortage of doctors, house officers and paramedical staff. “At present, there are 540 doctors, 380 house officers and 2,000 paramedics in the Civil Hospital,” he said.

He said: “More than 90 per cent of all kinds of medical and surgical items are provided by the hospital. The Civil Hospital has 1,765 beds and being a tertiary care teaching hospital most of the beds are occupied.”

Appreciating the positive and constructive role played by philanthropists and non-governmental organizations, the Civil Hospital’s medical superintendent said that the Sindh government was also contributing its share.
