Recovery of arms begins in Jalalabad

PESHAWAR, Jan 19: The administration of eastern Nangarhar province has launched a de-weaponization campaign in Jalalabad and directed the people to surrender illegal arms to the administration.

Eyewitness told Dawn here on Saturday told Dawn on telephone that on the directives of the new corps commander, Hazrat Ali, the administration had started a campaign against illegal arms and asked the people to hand over light and heavy weapons to the authorities.

In this connection the provincial government had constituted a four-member committee to monitor the arms recovery drive. The committee, comprises commander Gul Karim, Amirullah, commander Haji Zahir and Subhanullah, had asked the people to voluntarily surrender their arms, otherwise the administration would action against them.
