Nine arrested for electricity theft

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Jan 19: Nine people were arrested trying to steal electricity from the main supply lines in the Shabqadar and Daudzai sub-divisions of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) a couple of days back.

Pesco authorities, under directions from the company’s chief executive, had constituted two parties to check power theft and minimize line losses.

The team headed by the Shabqadar sub-divisional officer (SDO) during checking found six people stealing power from the main supply lines. They included Akbar, Farmanullah, Ghani, Raham Sher, Abdul Qadeer, and Rustam.

In the Daudzai sub-division area, the Pesco team arrested three people in the Ali Mohammad Garhi village for obtaining illegal connections. The accused Shaukat, Feroz Shah and Rashid were arrested and a case has been registered against them under the relevant law.

A Pesco press release stating that punitive action would be taken against all those people who were found stealing power urged the consumers to refrain from this illegal practice in their own interest.
