KARACHI, Jan 12: A two-day inoculation campaign against hepatitis-B began on Saturday under the joint auspices of the city government and a non-governmental organisation, the “AL-Khidmat Welfare Society.
Over 20 camps have been set up in different parts of the city for administrating vaccines against hepatitis-B at subsidised rates from 10 am to 6 pm.
The centres have been set up at the Civil Hospital, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, the Lyari General Hospital, Sarfraz Rafiqui Hospital, the Sindh government’s Liaquatabad hospital, SITE’s Kulsumbai Valika Hospital, North Karachi’s Umar Khan dispensary (Sector B-5) and Delhi Colony’s Jamiat hospital.
The other such camps have been set up at the Karimabad roundabout, near Nullah Stop of Sector 11-F, North Karachi; Qalandaria Chowk, Sector D-7, North Karachi; Shadman Town’s Union Council No.8; Azimpura’s Al- Khidmat Clinic, near Gulshan—Iqbal’s Masjid Bait-l-Mukarram; Malir City’s main stop; PECHS’ Society Office, Patel Parra, Saeedabad’s Chandni Chowk and in Landhi.
A spokesman for the city government said that since the anti-hepatitis-B vaccines were expensive, the AL-Khidmat Welfare Society were charging Rs80 as against the normal cost of Rs210 from children up to 20 years and Rs180 as against Rs350 from those who were over 20 years.
