KARACHI, Jan 12: A number of leakages in water pipelines continue to cause an acute shortage of water in various city areas, and the concerned KWSB officials seem to be least interested in plugging the leakages.
Such complaints have been received from residents of North Nazimabad’s Block ‘A’ and North Karachi’s Sector 11-A where the problem of leaking pipelines had been persisting for the last several days.
A resident of North Nazimabad’s Block ‘A’ said water was being wasted day and night from a leaking pipeline at two spots for more than a week, but the concerned KWSB executive engineer has failed to get the leakages repaired despite a number of complaints lodged with the KWSB North Nazimabad’s sub-division office.
Another perturbed resident of the locality deplored that although water remains accumulated in front of House Nos C-192-A and B-96-A as well as on a portion of street, the concerned officials were taking no interest in getting the leakages repaired.
The leakages have been resulting in water shortage in the area and damages to roads and streets.
Meanwhile, residents of North Karachi’s Sector 11-A complained that a major portion of a ground, near the locality’s Ali Ali School has turned into a pool of water.
Residents of the affected localities demanded of the City Nazim and the KWSB managing director to direct the concerned officials to immediately repair the leakages and restore normal water supply.
SHORTAGE: Water shortage also continues to persist in several localities of the city, forcing the residents of the affected areas to either buy private water tankers at exorbitant rates or consume sub-soil unhygienic water.
The hard-hit localities include parts of Adamjee Nagar, Malir (Extension), Khokhrapar No 2 1/2, different sectors of North Karachi, Maqboolabad Cooperative Housing Society and Lyari’s tail-end areas.
According to residents of Adamjee Nagar a number of houses of their locality, starting from House No 81-A, are without water for the last 15 days.
They deplored that although they had lodged complaints with the concerned officials of the KWSB as well as the area councillor, none of them have, so far, resolved the problem.
