KARACHI, Jan 10: A school girl died, while her two school fellows were injured, in a road traffic accident in Nazimabad on Thursday.
Following the accident, enraged youths set a bus on fire of route 20, (JA-8702) on the same road, the bus was coming from Baldia Town carrying a marriage party.
Eyewitnesses said that a speeding bus of route (19-D, JT- 0975) knocked down three girl students of the Government Pilot Girls School in Nazimabad No 1, near Subhan Bakery, the errant driver escaped along with the vehicle from the spot.
The three girls were crossing the main road on their way home in Nazimabad No.1 from their school in Nazimabad No.3, when the accident happened.
Police said that both the buses were carrying marriage parties, later the errant driver Wajid Ali, of bus (19-D) was arrested along with the bus from Azizabad.
The three injured girls, Afsheen, aged 16, Humaira, aged 18 and Saba, aged 18, were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital by a traffic police official, where they were admitted for treatment.
Afsheen was referred to the JPMC, where she expired during treatment, the hospital sources said.
After the bus was set ablaze by the area people, tension griped the area and all the roads leading to the affected area were closed by the police, diverting traffic to other routes.
Following the traffic chaos, traffic jams from as far as Garden and the Site area were seen.
People called up Dawn offices to inform that all the road leading to Nazimabad were closed, as police had erected barricades to divert the traffic.
An employee of a factory in Site told Dawn over phone that he and several of his colleagues returned to the factory after trying all the possible alternate routes to reach their residences in District Central.
Two young men died in a road traffic accident near Ghagher Pathak on late Wednesday night.
Police said that a land cruiser (IDJ-1413) heading towards Karachi rammed into a stationary truck (JT-9233) near Ghaghar Pathak.
As a result of the collision, Tariq Rana, 25, and Omar Khan, 20, riding in the land cruiser died on the spot, while other passengers, Jahangir and Syed Iqbal were injured.
The dead and the injured were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
CRUSHED: An elderly man was crushed beneath a locomotive near the Drig Road railway station on Thursday.
Police said that the victim Sufi Shar Mohammad, 60, resident of Chota Gate, Shah Faisal Colony, was crushed beneath the Tezro train near Drigh Road. The victim was handicapped.
SUICIDES: A teenager committed suicide by hanging himself in his house in North Nazimabad on Thursday.
Police said that Kamran Sajjad, 17, hanged himself from the ceiling fan of his room in UBL Apartment Complex, North Nazimabad on Thursday.
The teenager ended his life following quarrel with his parents, police said.
The body was sent to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for postmortem examination, police said.
In another incident, body of a young woman was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her house in PECHS on Thursday.
Police said that Mairaj Siddiqui, aged 28, used to live alone on the second floor in the house shared by her sister who used to reside on the ground floor.
On Thursday victim’s sister went up to her sister house which was locked, they broke down the door and found her hanging from the ceiling fan in her room.
Police said that the body was several days old and had started to decompose.
She was widowed and a former employee of a private airline.
