‘Army ready to defend country’

BAHAWALPUR, Jan 9: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool has said that the armed forces were fully prepared to defend the motherland and combat any aggression.

He was speaking at a meeting of union councils Nazims and elite of the town at Yazman, 30 kilometres from here, on Wednesday.

The governor said Indian troops’ concentration across the borders could not impress Pakistanis.

Later, the governor inaugurated Yazman water supply scheme, completed at a cost of Rs40 million.

Speaking on the occasion District Nazim Tariq Cheema thanked Dubai ruler Sheikh Hamdan bin Raashid Al-Maktum for his generous financial assistance for this water supply scheme.

The governor announced to grant funds for the renovation of Yazman stadium, for the buildings of girls degree college in Satellite Town, Bahawalpur, Hasilpur and Ahmadpur East.

The governor also inspected the emergency ward of the Bahawal Victoria Hospital, Bahawalpur.

On the request of BVH and Quaid-i-Azam Medical College CE Prof Dr Maj Muhammad Amin (retired), the governor assured provision of funds for the sewerage scheme of the hospital.

Later, the governor also went to the local registry office. EDO Dr Mansoor Bajwa informed the governor that all facilities were being provided to the people under one roof who want to sell or purchase properties.
