PESHAWAR, Jan 9: Tanzeem Naujavanan-i-Koki Khel (TNKK), Khyber Agency, has demanded of the government to introduce reforms and hold local bodies elections in the Federally-Administered Tribal Areas (Fata).

The organisation, which is running a social welfare programme in Khyber Agency, also urged the government to implement the recommendations of Fata Reforms Committee, constituted by the National Reconstruction Bureau.

Addressing a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday, the organisation’s central president, Rehmat Shah Kokikhel, recalled that the tribesmen had fully supported the government policies ever since Pakistan joined the international coalition against terrorism.

The Fata people, he said, welcomed the deployment of armed forces on the border with Afghanistan and provided all types of support to the troops to stop the infiltration of some wanted people.

Despite all the sacrifices of the tribesmen and the commitment of President Musharraf for bringing political, administrative and economic reforms in their area, he lamented, the government had not changed its policies towards the people of Fata, “which has disappointed the people.”

He called upon the government to fulfil its commitment and introduce reforms in the region.
