KARACHI, Jan 7: Omair Anwar chalked out the highest break of 49 on the opening day of 11th Sindh Cup snooker qualifying rounds in his 3-1 win over Habib-ur-Rehman at Indus Club Bahadurabad Monday.
288 cueists including 22 from Hyderabad, five from Larkana, one each from Jacobabad and Nawabshah and rest from Karachi are taking part in the qualifying rounds.
Top 16 from the qualifying stage will join the other 16 in the main draw. Sixteen from the main draw will qualifying rounds of the 27th National Snooker Championship being held later this month.
A ten-year-old boy Javed Sain also made his debut in the provincial cup but went down against Adnan Ghazi.
The event carries a cash purse of Rs 25,000 with winner taking Rs 15,000 and runner-up get Rs 8000. FRONTIER CUP
PESHAWAR: The 10th edition of the Frontier Cup snooker championship will get under way Tuesday at the indoor hall of the Green Snooker Club here with almost 100 players participating from around the country.
This time the championship has more attraction with a bigger prize money. Along with the prize money, the fee of the technical officials has been increased.
Besides other province, the players from around the province like Malakand, Hazara, Bannu, D.I. Khan, Mardan, Nowshera, and host Peshawar will be taking part. While talking to APP, Zulfiqar Butt, who is the organising secretary of the championship, has said all sort of preparations for the holding the Championship in a befitting manner have been completed.
The final will be played on Jan 15. Arshad Siddique of Peshawar will defend his title as last year he defeated Bilal of Abbottabad in the final.—APP
