Feroze’s late goal settles issue

LAHORE, Jan 7: Feroz Gulzar’s goal helped Kashmirian to beat Borjan by a close margin of five and a half goal to five on opening day of the Winter Cup Polo Tournament at the Lahore Polo Club ground Monday.

Two matches comprises two chukkers each were also decided on the opening day.

Playing with half goal advantage on handicap, Kashmirian were losing the match by four and a half goal to five in the dying minutes of the match but Feroz Gulzar converted a 40 yard penalty hit to ensure win.

In all, Feroze Gulzar scored two goals. Adnan Loan also contributed two while Ahmad Zubair chipped in with one.

For the losers, Agha Murtaza (3) and Tanvir Tariq (2) were the scorers.

Teams:

Kashmirian: Ahmad Zubair (-2), Raja Amir Khan (0), Adnan Lone (0), Feroze Gulzar (-1).

Borjan: Tanvir Tahir (-2), Jamal Iftikhar (0), Agha Murtaza (0), Shafa Noon (-2).

Marry Max was ousted from the tournament after losing its both matches of two chukker each.

Babar Monnoo scored the match-winner for Gladiator to beat Marry Max in a nail-biting match by three and a half goals to three. Besides Babar Monnoo, Usman Hayee and Rashid Baig also added one goal each for the Gladiator. Half goal was the handicap.

Hasan Raza Gillani scored two goals for the losing side while Talha Saeed contributed one goal.

Teams:

Gladiator: Babar Monnoo (-2), Abdul Hayee Mehta (0), Rashid Ali Beg (0), Faisal Ejaz (-2).

Marry Max: Omar Nazir (-2), Hasan Raza Gillani (-1), Walid Khakwani (0), Lt. Col Talha Saeed (0).

Millat Tractor trounced Marry Max by three goals to one and a half. Having half goal on the handicap, Marry Max could score only one goal in the match through Hasan Raza Gillani who converted a spot penalty near the goalpost.

For the Millat Tractor team, Aurangzeb Monnoo scored two goals while Ahmad Nawaz added one goal.
