Jehangiri appointed chief justice

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Jan 4: The federal government on Friday appointed Justice Mohammad Bashir Jehangiri Chief Justice of Pakistan from Jan 7, an official notification said.

Justice Mohammad Bashir Jehangiri is currently working as acting chief justice and would take fresh oath as permanent chief justice from Jan 7. He would hold the post till Jan 31, when he will attain the age of superannuation.

The issuance of notification on Friday has put to rest the efforts that Justice Jehangiri should be dissuaded from becoming chief justice of Pakistan for a period even less than a month and should be asked to concentrate on the post of Federal Ombudsman.

Justice Jehangiri would be replaced by Justice Sheikh Riaz Ahmad.
